Jana Bressem                                                                                                          

is academic assistant at the chair for applied linguistics: language and cultural contact (Prof. Dr. Cornelia Müller) at the faculty of socal and cultural sciences at the European-Universtity Viadrina, Frankfurt Oder.

From 2006-2010, she was a reseach assistant in the project „Towards a Grammar of Gesture: Evolution, Brain, and Linguistic Structures“ (funded by the Volkswagen foundation) at the European-Universtity Viadrina, Frankfurt Oder. She was a research assistant in the subprojects "Simultaneous structures of gestures in human and non-human primates".

From 2008-2010 she was a member of the local organizing committee of the 4th conference of the International Society for Gesture Studies (ISGS). From 2001 till 2006 she was a member of the FU-Gesture Project.

Jana Bressem studied linguistics, North American studies and communications science/journalism at the Free University Berlin. She finished her studies in June 2006 with the degree Magister Artium. Her thesis was on "Forms of coverbal gestures - Distribution and combinatorics of form-based parameters".

Her research interests are gesture studies, multimodal grammar, language and cognition, pragmatics, sign languages, prosody as well as conversation and interaction analysis.
